The aim (object) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (CrPC) is to provide a fair, uniform, and systematic procedure for the administration of criminal justice. It lays down the process for the investigation, inquiry, trial, conviction, acquittal, and appeal in criminal cases. The CrPC is a procedural law that complements the substantive criminal law contained in the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Main aims of the CrPC

  1. To ensure the fair administration of criminal justice.

  2. To regulate the investigation and trial of criminal offences.

  3. To protect the rights of the accused while safeguarding the interests of victims and society.

  4. To prevent arbitrary arrests, detention, and abuse of power by law enforcement authorities.

  5. To establish the powers and jurisdiction of criminal courts and magistrates.

  6. To ensure that offenders are prosecuted and punished according to law after a fair trial.

  7. To maintain public order and uphold the rule of law.
